Myths and Legends

Pele, the sacred living deity of the Hawaii's volcanoes, controls the limitless power of creation though her perseverance, molten strength,and unearthly beauty." Her passion emanates from her ancient existence. Revered and honored is the fire goddess. A myth is a story that is told and retold over time. The Hawaiian people tell the myth that volcanoes were controlled by Pele the goddess of fire. They believe that Pele, the daughter of Mother Earth and Father Sky, used volcanoes to burn lands,melt rocks and to punish and kill people who didn't obey her. Some people still believe that Pele now lives in Kilauea.
