About Kilauea
Kilauea is a volcano located on the island of Hawai'i. This volcano is a caldera and a shield volcano, a caldera is a crater with a diameter many times that of a volcanic vet formed by collapse of the central part of a volcano or by explosions of extraordinary violence. Kilauea means "spewing" or "much spreading", Kilauea is about 1,277m and 4,190ft, the area is 1430km and is about 13.7% of Hawai'i. Kilauea is present day active, Kilauea has been continuous since January 3, 1983. One of Kilauea's close city is Hilo. Hilo is the largest city on the island of Hawaii. The population of Hilo is about 40,759 people & about 5 miles away from Kilauea.Kilauea does not have one most famous lava flow, on the Chain of Craters, you drive down a road of dated rocks, like walking back into history of each flow. ON the island of Hawai'i, the ecosystem has been greatly affected. The Hawaiian Archipelago, once celebrated as islands of evolution, are now islands of extinction. The arrival of people changed forever the conditions that fostered the original diversity of life. Forests vanished as people cleared the land to plant crops and form communities. Polynesian and other settlers introduced many alien plants and animals, and some thrived and multiplied in their new home. Their muddy wallows make breeding grounds for mosquitoes that transmit avian malaria and pox to native birds. Mongooses, cats, and rats eat native birds and their eggs. Alien plants like the Faya and Kahlil ginger displace vast areas of Hawaiian forests. The onslaught of introduced plants and animals caused the extinction of countless native species and still threatens unique life forms on Hawai'i.
